A return to war!

So finally I got my Beastmen on the battlefield! Against my usual Skaven opponent. We played 2 games 2000 points each. I fielded 28 Gors with add H/W's, 20 Bestigor, 10 Centigors including Ghorros, a Jabberslythe a few hounds and a wizard and BSB oh and a Wargor on Razorgor chariot.

Game 1, I got hammered! I fled some hounds away from his Hellpit Abomination thinking I could fail its charge and double charge it with my Flaming attacks Bestigor and my Ghorros led Centigors.... this failed as my Centigors fled the table panicked by the loss of the 5 Chaos Hounds in front of them! Things went from bad to worse as my wizard blew up and my Gors double 6'd on a break test! Also fleeing the table!

Game 2 was much much better, I got the drop with my Centigors charging a unit of 25 Clanrats and breaking them on the charge, they fled into the Hellpit behind them which in turn also fled the table. My Jabberslythe landed behind his lines slaying his lone BSB with its aura of madness, and my Wargor Chariot/Bestigor combo double charging the 30 Clanrats in the centre of the bored an wiping them out free'd me up and he conceded on turn 4 when my jabberslythe cost him 2 weapons teams (one from melee the other from its aura) and was position to rear charge his plague monks which had centigors to the flank and bestigors in front. The Plague furnace in tatters after an overcharged Amber Spear ripped it to pieces.

So what have these games taught me....

1 Bestigors are disgustingly good in melee! I've just bought a battalion box to up the unit to 30 strong!
2 Centigors are very hard when they get the strength bonus on the charge! I've boughtthe components to convert another 5, and am planning on running this as a unit of 15 with Great weapons and Ghorros, I dont care how youcut it 17 WS5 S6 attacks re-rolling misses with Primall Fury and potentially an extra 5 if you Double 1 the roll.... when they're that fast your opponent has to deal with them or suffer, they're great at taking down small-medium basic infantry, and i envisage them being great against monsters and war machines.
3 The Jabberslythe, in both games this thing outperformed its statline! I know I was playing Skaven which magnified the aura of madness, but forcing your opponent to take LD tests is never a bad thing, ever! Plus any flying thunderstomping beasty is good in my books! It actually did destroy a unit of 25 clanrats in melee in the first game too, only suffered 1 wound back!
4 Gors, pretty useless! Not worth taking for my plans I will use Ghorros Centigors and Tuskgor chariots to build my core points.
5 Chariots... the Razorgor ones atleast... very good! s6 impact hits on the charge, primal fury on the Razorgor! with a wargor on the back this thing held up a Hellit for 2 turns in the first game allowing my Bestigor to finish it off, and in game 2 flank charged some Clanrats and massacred them! Cant wait to make the full conversion and put my general in it!

Also I must say T 5 characters is really nice when your used to Elf lords at T3!

OK so the plans, as mentioned 5 more Centigors, 5 Tuskgor chariots, a handful of Ungor raiders (instead of chaos hounds) 10 more Bestigors and another Shaman. Next game should be 3000 points hopefully. I wasn't sure about taking any Minotaurs, but now I must admit I like the idea of a Mino slave in one of my units I dont know how I'll make this conversion yet but I'll have a think, it would really add some killing power, or maybe I'll just go with a unit of 6 and look at swapping the Jabber for a Ghorgon to join them?

Time will tell!

Pics of the army coming soon!
