A return to war!
So finally I got my Beastmen on the battlefield! Against my usual Skaven opponent. We played 2 games 2000 points each. I fielded 28 Gors with add H/W's, 20 Bestigor, 10 Centigors including Ghorros, a Jabberslythe a few hounds and a wizard and BSB oh and a Wargor on Razorgor chariot.
Game 1, I got hammered! I fled some hounds away from his Hellpit Abomination thinking I could fail its charge and double charge it with my Flaming attacks Bestigor and my Ghorros led Centigors.... this failed as my Centigors fled the table panicked by the loss of the 5 Chaos Hounds in front of them! Things went from bad to worse as my wizard blew up and my Gors double 6'd on a break test! Also fleeing the table!
Game 2 was much much better, I got the drop with my Centigors charging a unit of 25 Clanrats and breaking them on the charge, they fled into the Hellpit behind them which in turn also fled the table. My Jabberslythe landed behind his lines slaying his lone BSB with its aura of madness, and my Wargor Chariot/Bestigor combo double charging the 30 Clanrats in the centre of the bored an wiping them out free'd me up and he conceded on turn 4 when my jabberslythe cost him 2 weapons teams (one from melee the other from its aura) and was position to rear charge his plague monks which had centigors to the flank and bestigors in front. The Plague furnace in tatters after an overcharged Amber Spear ripped it to pieces.
So what have these games taught me....
1 Bestigors are disgustingly good in melee! I've just bought a battalion box to up the unit to 30 strong!
2 Centigors are very hard when they get the strength bonus on the charge! I've boughtthe components to convert another 5, and am planning on running this as a unit of 15 with Great weapons and Ghorros, I dont care how youcut it 17 WS5 S6 attacks re-rolling misses with Primall Fury and potentially an extra 5 if you Double 1 the roll.... when they're that fast your opponent has to deal with them or suffer, they're great at taking down small-medium basic infantry, and i envisage them being great against monsters and war machines.
3 The Jabberslythe, in both games this thing outperformed its statline! I know I was playing Skaven which magnified the aura of madness, but forcing your opponent to take LD tests is never a bad thing, ever! Plus any flying thunderstomping beasty is good in my books! It actually did destroy a unit of 25 clanrats in melee in the first game too, only suffered 1 wound back!
4 Gors, pretty useless! Not worth taking for my plans I will use Ghorros Centigors and Tuskgor chariots to build my core points.
5 Chariots... the Razorgor ones atleast... very good! s6 impact hits on the charge, primal fury on the Razorgor! with a wargor on the back this thing held up a Hellit for 2 turns in the first game allowing my Bestigor to finish it off, and in game 2 flank charged some Clanrats and massacred them! Cant wait to make the full conversion and put my general in it!
Also I must say T 5 characters is really nice when your used to Elf lords at T3!
OK so the plans, as mentioned 5 more Centigors, 5 Tuskgor chariots, a handful of Ungor raiders (instead of chaos hounds) 10 more Bestigors and another Shaman. Next game should be 3000 points hopefully. I wasn't sure about taking any Minotaurs, but now I must admit I like the idea of a Mino slave in one of my units I dont know how I'll make this conversion yet but I'll have a think, it would really add some killing power, or maybe I'll just go with a unit of 6 and look at swapping the Jabber for a Ghorgon to join them?
Time will tell!
Pics of the army coming soon!

A time out taken.....
OK, so its been a very long time since my last post and a ton has happened in my life leading to my absence not only from this blog but even from playing Warhammer.
A friend and former regular opponent recently contacted me about a game against my Elves, which are all currently still in boxes, and soon to be appearing on EBAY!
My remaining few ogres, my wood elves and dark elves will be sold (barring any bits I want to keep), and my attention shall be firmly placed on the Beastment as the army of choice. Hopefully they wont be releasing a new book any time soon, as much as these guys are overpriced the newer books have consecutively put me off army after army, especially the elves.
So in one of only two "old books" remaining alongside Bretonnia, where you have a multitude of character options and magic items available, the Beastmen stand with one thing, options!
Given my currently limited budget and living space I want to play an aarmy that i can collect cheap (and i already have a good few bits for these guys), one thats easy -ish to paint, and one that doesn't have too many models in it (made easier in this case by overcosting).
So, I've revisited my original plan for these furry critters and still love the idea of a roaming barbaric horde, looking for something, or somethings. Ghorros Warhoof and his 9 Centigors will still be featured as a central unit with possibly a couple of tertiary Centigor units in play as well. the rest of my core will be made of Tuskgor chariots (these will actually be converted Mournfang cavalry), my speciaal choices will include Razorgors (probably made from Thunderwolves), possibly Besitgors and or minotaurs, I will have my Jabberslythe and Centigor in the rare slots, and my lords will also be mounted in Razorgor/tuskgor chariots. Although I am deciding to pretty much entirely refrain from having actual chariots and using monstery creatures that are roughly chariot sized, as I can imagine beastment taming al sorts of feral creatures of the wilds, and not building machinery. I also dont want large numbers of foot infantry, this horde roams, and as such anything not on 4 legs would likely ride something on 4 legs!
I'm particularly looking forward to making my Beastlord on Razorgor chariot - which will be riding a Grimhorn Rhinox from Forgeworld, making him a very tall very impressive centre piece for my army.
Whether this style of list will constantly loose or may just surprise me and win a few games I care not! if I can putt it off, it will look fantastic! :)

Tournament on the horizon...
OK... So, the local GW is running a Warhammer doubles tournament in the near future (Liverpool Rules) meaning no force organisation requirements. Technically could field an army of heroes.
However... the plan is to Take a 10 strong unit of Centigor led by Ghorros Warhoff, a Cygor, a Shaman and some chaos hounds (its only 800 pts so prob cant fit much more in), perhaps if possibly I can take an additional unit of 5 centigors with throwing axes, or maybe a razorgor or two?
My ally will be fielding a horrific Skaven army with possibly a pair of Abominations and tons of Slaves!
Either way I have a good excuse to get my Centigors built and painted this week and start planning a list.

Beastmen rising!
Well, this is my second personal army blog, after my Dark Elves one.
I have played Warhammer fantasy battle for many years (around 18), and over that time I have played many armies, most prolifically Chaos Warriors, but have also had a very competative Lizardman army, an Ogre Army, and over the last five years Dark Elves have been my staple!
HOWEVER, I've decided its time to play less Elfy!
*Saying this I'm collecting a Wood Elves army in tandem with the Beastmen - but wont be gaming with them until after the re-release!*
So without further ado, I am now preparing wholeheartedly to unleash a mighty horde of Beasts upon my local gaming group and lay waste to their pathetic collections of misguided souls, my main opponents are likely to be Dark and High Elves, Lizardmen and Skaven. There's also a fair few Chaos Warriors players in there too. This is a good mix as it means I will regularly play against mobile, hard hitting, magic heavy and horde armies, giving me a good degree of practice at taking each type down!
So collecting an army unlike one I've collected before is a good challenge, the army book despite being slated a lot online seems fairly solid, and its certainly very easy to build some absolutely hard as nails character choices, the problem is the points, they're all a little over priced, and so you need to be careful on going overboard on heroes!
So firstly I have just bought models I liked, the main reason I started Beastmen is I love the models. First purchase was the plastic Brey-Shaman, and a box of 10 Bestigor. These have been assembled and undercoated, a couple of ebay wins seen me gaining a Beastmen battalion box set, and10 converted Centigors. Whilst Centigors are not highly valued online I plan on converting myself a bunch more and have already made a Ghorros Warhoof conversion to make them the core of my force, which I've decided will be a rampaging nomadic tribe, searching for some ancient magical knowledge or artifact?! Once I've come up with a Beastlord I will know more the theme of the army. But for now I know that at its centre will be several units of Centigor (3 units probably) giving me some serious speed, accompanied by a Cygor or two, chaos hounds, and Razorgors, giving me the ability to get to my opponents flanks and rear early on, with a large block of Bestigor holding my centre.Much like Elfy tactics, I like to be able to pick my fights!
I'm going to be building an spraying the last of my Gors and Centigors this week and hopefully painting some test models, currently I'm thinking of using a dark grey colour for the furs, with green and white as spot colours. But we'll see how that translates on the actual models.
Hopefully I'll be able to put some pictures up at the end of the week.
